The British Heart Foundation furniture store in Brighton closes on Saturday 19 September, ending its run at 95–97 London Road.
The charity has confirmed that its Home and Electrical shop will shut as part of a wider review of its UK retail estate. The branch sold donated furniture, electrical appliances and household goods, and also provided volunteering opportunities for local residents.
British Heart Foundation Brighton closure: what shoppers need to know
A regional manager for the British Heart Foundation thanked Brighton customers, donors and volunteers for supporting the shop and helping to raise money for research into heart and circulatory diseases. The closure was first announced ahead of the final trading date and has now taken effect.
People who still want to support the charity can use the official BHF shop finder to check nearby branches and donation points. The charity also offers a free collection service for suitable furniture and electrical donations.
The Brighton closure forms part of a broader reduction in the charity’s shop network amid rising operating costs and weaker retail profitability. National plans to reduce the estate were reported by The Guardian in June.
London Road retail changes
The loss of the large furniture shop is another notable change for London Road’s retail mix. Elsewhere in central Brighton, new retail investment is also being proposed, including Uniqlo’s plans for a Churchill Square store.
The closure date and local details were reported on 19 September by The Sun, citing confirmation from the British Heart Foundation’s regional manager.
