The A27 Coldean to Falmer eastbound carriageway is scheduled to close from 8pm on Sunday 11 October until 6am on Monday 12 October 2026 for pavement survey work. Drivers heading east from Brighton towards Falmer and beyond should check the closure before setting off tonight.
A27 Coldean to Falmer: what is scheduled?
Polegate Town Council’s notice of National Highways works sets out overnight pavement surveys between Falmer and Coldean. It lists eastbound closures on 11, 17 and 18 October, then westbound closures on 24, 25 and 31 October, each between 8pm and 6am.
The Brighton Times’ local travel report separately identifies tonight’s eastbound Coldean-to-Falmer closure. These are the published plans, rather than evidence that the road is already shut.
Why it matters locally
The direction matters: an eastbound trip tonight is affected differently from a westbound journey on a later listed weekend. When arranging a lift, delivery or return from work, give the person travelling the date and direction together. “The A27 is closed” is too imprecise to plan around.
What drivers should do
Check National Highways’ closure report immediately before departure. Its guidance says early-morning journeys can be affected by closures beginning the previous evening. Follow the diversion signs on the night; we have not verified a prescribed diversion route and are not presenting an improvised local shortcut as official advice.
If your journey also uses local buses tomorrow, our Hove Street stop-suspension report covers a separate disruption on 12–13 October.
Brighton Locals’ view
Editorial judgement: The useful warning is the exact overnight window, not an alarmist suggestion of a permanent road closure. Drivers need the live status and signed diversion before committing to a time-sensitive journey.
What happens next?
The planned reopening is 6am on 12 October. Completion, cancellation or an extension would change the travel advice; the later October dates remain separate planned closures.
Bottom line
Check the eastbound A27 before travelling tonight, especially if your trip crosses midnight.
