Brighton Manchester City team news brings a welcome change ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at the Etihad: Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer are back in contention. Albion confirmed the update on 27 October, while Ferdi Kadioglu and Chema Andres need fitness assessments.
At a glance
- Albion visit Manchester City on Wednesday 28 October in the Carabao Cup.
- Minteh and Wieffer are available for consideration, rather than confirmed starters.
- Kadioglu and Andres picked up hip injuries at Liverpool.
- The teams meet again in the Premier League on Saturday.
Brighton Manchester City team news: what changed?
In the club’s official preview, published at 10:15 GMT on Tuesday, Wieffer’s absence is put at nine matches. Minteh was injured in the pre-season meeting with Roma. Their return gives Fabian Hurzeler more selection options after Sunday’s defeat at Liverpool.
Sports Mole’s report of Tuesday’s press conference also describes both players as being in contention. It reports that Kadioglu and Andres must be assessed after their hip knocks. The distinction matters: a positive injury update does not establish how many minutes any returning player can manage.
Why it matters for Albion
Two games against the same opponent in four days create different selection questions. Wednesday offers a direct route to a cup quarter-final; Saturday brings league points. A squad with more available players has more ways to approach that schedule, although availability alone does not tell us which combinations will work.
Brighton Locals’ view
This is encouraging news, with an obvious limit. Supporters can reasonably welcome the extra options, but “back in contention” should not become an expectation of an immediate full-match return. The useful test is the named squad and then the role each player actually takes.
What supporters should do
Check the club’s matchday team announcement before treating predicted line-ups as confirmed. If travelling, use our separate Manchester City cup travel report for the tram-work and supporters’ coach checks. Keep Wednesday’s cup arrangements separate from Saturday’s league trip.
What happens next
The next firm evidence is the matchday squad and starting XI on 28 October. That will show whether the returning players start, provide cover from the bench or need more time.
More options are a useful boost. Their matchday involvement is still to be confirmed.
