Brighton Manchester City cup travel needs extra planning for Wednesday 28 October: engineering works affect several Manchester tram lines, while Brighton & Hove Albion Supporters’ Club says it will not run a coach to the Carabao Cup tie.
At a glance
- Kick-off is 7.30pm GMT at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 28 October.

- Tram works run from 19 October to 1 November; several lines are suspended or reduced.
- A dedicated Altrincham–Etihad shuttle is listed for this match. Check its timetable before setting off.
Brighton Manchester City cup travel: which routes are affected?
Manchester City’s official travel notice says services on the Altrincham, Trafford Park and Eccles tram lines are suspended during the works, with reduced services on the Airport and East Didsbury lines. That is a specific network disruption, rather than a statement that every Manchester tram route is closed.
The notice lists a dedicated match shuttle between Altrincham and the Etihad. Pickup points include Altrincham Interchange Stand D, The Navigation on Navigation Road, De Quincey Road in Timperley, Marks & Spencer in Sale and Stretford Public Hall. Outbound departures are timed; return buses operate on a load-and-go basis from Ashton New Road, opposite Tesla.
Use the linked Transport for Greater Manchester bus timetable for departure times. Brighton Locals could not independently retrieve that timetable, so we are not publishing unverified departures or fares.
What Albion supporters should do
The supporters’ club’s own fixture notice explicitly rules out its coach for this match. This concerns that club’s service; it does not establish that every other coach operator is unavailable.
Plan the journey home before buying a rail ticket, allowing for the evening finish and onward transfer. Check current rail services with National Rail, then compare your arrival station with City’s official travel guidance. Do not assume a familiar tram connection will operate normally.
Wednesday’s cup match is separate from the league visit on Saturday 31 October. Our ticket-exchange report explains the different resale deadlines. City’s match preview confirms Wednesday’s time and broadcast channel.
Brighton Locals’ view
The last part of the journey deserves as much attention as the trip north. A shuttle offers an alternative for affected routes, but its timed departures and the absence of the supporters’ club coach make a checked connection more useful than a generic “allow extra time” warning.
What happens next
Check City’s travel page again on matchday for changes, and confirm the shuttle timetable and your return connection. A changed service notice would change this advice.
For Brighton fans, the practical priority is a complete outward-and-return plan before Wednesday evening.
