Local drivers are monitoring the main routes between Brighton & Hove and Gatwick Airport. Closure details have been independently checked against National Highways information.

A23 Dale Hill closure times

  • Monday 21 September: 8pm to 6am
  • Tuesday 22 September: 8pm to 6am
  • Affected: the A23 northbound Dale Hill exit slip
  • Reason: carriageway maintenance

The restriction applies to the exit slip rather than the main northbound A23. Drivers continuing towards Gatwick Airport can remain on the main carriageway, but anyone intending to leave at Dale Hill should follow the diversion signs and allow extra time.

Advice for Brighton and Hove drivers

Passengers travelling to Gatwick during the closure window should check their route before departure, particularly if their journey starts in villages close to Pyecombe or the northern edge of Brighton.

National Highways publishes current incidents, travel alerts and its daily closure report on its live travel updates page. Timings can change if works are delayed by weather or operational conditions.

Information checked on 21 September 2026. This update will be amended if National Highways changes the planned closure.
