A Hailsham bus stop suspension is affecting Regency route 28 and route 500 from 10 October 2026 onwards. Gordon Road north-eastbound and St Wilfrid’s Church south-westbound are not being served; passengers should use Hailsham Tesco or Police Station instead.
What the Hailsham bus stop suspension changes
Brighton & Hove Buses’ live service update lists the two stops as unavailable because of roadworks. It describes the suspension as running from 10 October onwards, rather than providing a fixed final day.
Hailsham Town Council’s transport page separately says services are being diverted and directs Brighton-bound passengers to Hailsham Tesco and Eastbourne-bound passengers to Hailsham Police Station. The operator’s live notice should remain the final check for the exact journey.
Why the roadworks matter
SGN says its urgent gas-main replacement programme involves South Road, Gordon Road and Ersham Road. Its 6 October update puts current work on South Road and says an Ersham Road closure is planned from 12 to 31 October. It advises passengers to check with their operator because buses will be affected.
This means the stop change is part of a wider, phased works programme. It does not automatically mean every road or every Hailsham service is closed.
What passengers should do
Open the live service-update page shortly before leaving. For route 28 or 500, use the direction-specific alternative given by the local transport information: Tesco towards Brighton and Police Station towards Eastbourne. Allow extra walking time, particularly if mobility or a connection matters.
Brighton Locals’ view
Editorial judgement: The lack of a published end date makes this a “check each journey” disruption. Naming the two usable alternatives is more useful than simply saying buses are diverted.
What happens next?
Watch for an operator update restoring the stops or changing the alternatives as the works move phase. A confirmed end date would materially improve the advice.
Bottom line
Routes 28 and 500 are running, but two Hailsham stops are not: check the live notice and board at Tesco or Police Station as directed.
