Sussex Police has introduced a new all-terrain vehicle to support patrols on Brighton’s beaches, with a particular focus on the night-time economy and early morning hours.
The specialist vehicle entered service in September and is designed to travel across the shingle, giving officers faster access to parts of the beach that can be difficult to reach in conventional patrol vehicles.
Extra visibility after dark
The ATV is equipped with blue lights, a powerful spotlight and high-output LED lighting. Police say this will allow officers to illuminate larger areas of the seafront, respond to incidents and reach people who may be vulnerable.
The lighting is also intended to reduce opportunities for offending in darker or more secluded parts of the beach by making those areas easier to monitor.
Supporting Brighton’s night-time patrols
Sussex Police said the vehicle will strengthen its visible presence along the seafront and help officers respond more promptly during busy nights and the early hours.
The launch follows regular partnership work between police, the council, venues and other services aimed at keeping Brighton’s seafront safe for residents, workers and visitors.
Anyone who needs to report a non-emergency incident can use the Sussex Police online reporting service. In an emergency, call 999.
