Seaford Bonfire bus diversions will affect Brighton & Hove Buses routes 12 and 12X between 7pm and 9pm on Saturday 17 October. Passengers heading to the celebrations, travelling home or making an ordinary evening journey need to choose a different boarding point.

Seaford Bonfire bus diversions: the stops to avoid

The operator’s service notice lists Beacon Road, Belgrave Road, Seaford Station, Seaford Library, War Memorial, Southdown Road and Downs Road as unavailable in both directions during the diversion.

Use the named alternatives above, but check which is appropriate for your destination and direction before setting off. The notice does not give a walking-distance comparison or promise extra buses, so neither should be assumed.

Why it matters locally

The change affects more than people going to the bonfire. A familiar town-centre stop may be unavailable precisely when someone expects to board their usual bus. The temporary terminus is particularly important: a service shown as normally finishing at the library will not take passengers there during this period.

Seaford Bonfire Society’s October calendar independently lists its 2026 bonfire night on 17 October from 7pm. The bus diversion window is transport information, not a complete timetable for the procession, bonfire or fireworks.

What you should do

Check the operator’s live service-updates page and journey planner for your actual travel time. Choose the replacement stop before leaving home, and arrange any collection or onward meeting around that stop rather than the library. Recheck before the return journey in case the notice changes.

Do not confuse this event diversion with the separate Vale Road diversion previously reported by Brighton Locals: they concern different restrictions.

Brighton Locals’ view

The useful detail is the boarding point, not simply the fact that roads are closing. Naming the missed stops and temporary terminus gives passengers something they can act on. Clear information at the affected stops will matter as much as the online notice.

What to watch next

Watch the operator’s notice for any revised timing or stopping arrangements. The published diversion ends at 9pm; that is not a guarantee about every road reopening or every event activity finishing.

Bottom line: choose your boarding point before leaving, not after reaching a closed stop.
