This Komedia Brighton guide answers the small questions that can make a large difference to a North Laine night out: when to arrive, whether you can eat during the show, what happens with group seating and how to arrange access. It is a planning guide based on the venue’s current published information, not a first-hand review.
Komedia Brighton guide: start with the right show and room
Komedia is at 44–47 Gardner Street, Brighton, BN1 1UN. Its programme includes comedy, music, club nights and family events, so the venue name alone does not tell you the age limit or format of the ticket you are buying. VisitBrighton separately lists the recurring Comedy Club, while the venue’s own event page is the source for a particular date.
For example, the Friday 16 October 2026 Comedy Club listing gives an 8pm performance with doors at 7pm. It lists Jimmy McGhie as MC alongside Gbemi Oladipo, Erika Ehler and Funmbi Omotayo. That is a dated example, not a promise of the same line-up every Friday.
Put both times in your plan. An 8pm start is not an instruction to turn up at 8pm if you need time for food, drinks or finding a suitable seat.
Food is a room-specific decision
Komedia’s food and drink information says food is available at most seated basement comedy shows, subject to the individual event. It is not served at shows in the Studio. Checking that distinction before booking avoids building an evening around a meal that is not available in your room.
The venue advertises advance Meal Deal tickets for Komedia Comedy Club with a saving of up to £5 per person. “Up to” is a ceiling, not a £5 saving guaranteed on every purchase. Compare the actual package and menu with what you would order separately. Large-print and braille food menus and wine lists are available from the bar on request.
The sensible choice is to decide whether you want a seated show-and-food evening or a separate meal before or afterwards. Do not assume a restaurant booking and a show ticket are interchangeable.
What to budget, and what not to assume
The venue’s FAQs state a £2 booking charge per ticket, capped at £12, for online, telephone and in-person bookings. The base ticket price depends on the selected event and option. We could not verify the current Friday ticket total in the booking system, so no estimated admission price is presented here.
Seating is unreserved. The venue says groups of five or more at basement comedy shows are seated together, though larger groups may occupy several tables. Comedy Club is strictly 18+; other shows have their own restrictions. Bring physical proof of age where required, as the venue does not accept a photograph of ID on a phone.
For a group organiser, agree the event and ticket option before collecting money. A shared start time is not enough if people buy different packages or mistake a family event for the adult Comedy Club.
Arrange access before the night
The current accessibility page offers one free companion ticket to customers who need that support, alongside their paid ticket. Arrange it by calling 01273 647100 or emailing tickets@komedia.co.uk. The published telephone hours are Tuesday–Saturday, noon–5pm.
Wheelchair users and anyone with specific access needs are asked to add a note at online checkout or contact the venue. Early entry can also be arranged. Its linked access information pack describes lift access to both performance spaces and accessible toilets. The pack’s filename is dated 2024; it remains linked from the current access page.
Describe the arrangement you actually need rather than relying on “accessible” as a complete answer: room, seating position, wheelchair space and arrival arrangements are worth confirming for your chosen event.
Plan the trip home using the date, not a generic last train
A show’s running time and a railway’s timetable are separate pieces of information. Use the National Rail planner for your actual return date and allow time to leave the venue. A general venue travel page is not a live departure board.
For an earlier daytime plan, our Brighton Open Market guide explains another city-centre food and shopping option, including why individual traders’ hours matter.
Brighton Locals’ view
Komedia’s appeal is the range of ways to use one venue. The planning trap is treating every room and event as the same experience. Check the room, compare the full ticket cost and arrange access directly; those three decisions are more useful than an undifferentiated recommendation to book a comedy night.
Bottom line: choose the show first, then build the meal, arrival time and journey around its actual terms.
