Flying from Gatwick early on Monday 2 November? Check your journey before setting your alarm. National Rail has confirmed changes to two early Thameslink services serving Brighton and Gatwick. For passengers comparing their options, Sussex Airports Taxis offers pre-booked transfers from Brighton, Hove and surrounding Sussex towns.
The early services to check
- Brighton towards Gatwick: the usual 04:12 Brighton to Bedford train will instead start at Haywards Heath at 04:26. A replacement bus leaves Brighton at 03:41 to connect there.
- Gatwick towards Brighton: the 04:58 train is cancelled. Its replacement bus leaves the airport earlier, at 04:04.
The changes concern these specific early services on 2 November. They do not mean the airport or the entire Brighton–Gatwick railway is closed all day.
What the rail changes mean for your airport journey
The official National Rail engineering notice attributes the changes to work between Brighton and Haywards Heath. It advises allowing extra time and checking replacement-bus collection points using station information.
If you usually rely on one of these trains, compare the revised itinerary with your flight arrangements. A familiar departure time saved in an old screenshot is not a substitute for checking the timetable for your actual travel date.
A pre-booked Gatwick transfer from your doorstep
Sussex Airports Taxis provides pre-booked journeys to Gatwick North and South Terminal. Its published Brighton-to-Gatwick guide price starts from £75; the confirmed quote depends on your address, travel time, passengers, luggage and vehicle.
The operator also serves Hove, Lewes, Hassocks, Hurstpierpoint, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Worthing and other Sussex locations. Saloon, estate, MPV and eight-seater options are listed, subject to availability and the luggage space required.
For airport arrivals, the company says Meet & Greet is included and flight monitoring is available when flight details are supplied. Confirm your terminal and collection instructions when booking.

Before you confirm your journey
- Work backwards from check-in: use your airline’s required arrival time, then allow for reaching the correct terminal.
- Compare the full journey: include getting to the station, connections and your group’s total cost when weighing rail against a private transfer.
- Count every bag: include cabin cases, pushchairs and larger items so the vehicle can be matched to the booking.
- Keep the confirmation: check the pickup time, terminal, agreed price and any waiting or cancellation conditions.
A road transfer offers a direct alternative to a rail connection, but still needs time for traffic and roadworks. Choose the option that fits your actual flight and party.
