A day trip to Worthing does not need a packed itinerary. On a bright Sussex day, the best plan can be the simplest: pick up something good to eat in town, wander through Montague Gardens and carry on towards the seafront.
Worthing feels noticeably calmer than Brighton, but there is still plenty within an easy walk of the centre. This little route works particularly well when you want sea air, a relaxed stroll and no pressure to rush between attractions.
Start your day trip to Worthing in the town centre
Montague Street is a useful first stop. If you fancy a bakery croissant or another easy picnic bite, the town-centre M&S Foodhall is convenient before heading towards the beach. Bakery availability can change during the day, so it is worth seeing what is fresh on the counter when you arrive.

Take a slow walk through Montague Gardens
From the shopping streets, Montague Gardens makes a pleasant pause on the way to the sea. The new planting, seating and colourful Worthing sign give the centre a more welcoming feel—and the sign is an easy spot for a quick photo before continuing to the promenade.

Finish by the sea
The reward is the seafront: space to walk, sit with your food and enjoy a slower stretch of the Sussex coast. You can keep the day loose—follow the promenade, stop near the pier or simply find a bench and watch the water.
For anyone travelling from Brighton or Hove, Worthing is close enough for an easy change of scene without turning the outing into a major expedition. Comfortable shoes, a light layer for the coastal breeze and a little time with no timetable are really all you need.
