Modern Toss Flies is listed as cancelled on Brighton Dome’s dedicated event page, despite remaining in a wider festival roundup. Anyone planning to visit during the advertised 16–25 October period should check the individual notice before travelling. Brighton Locals checked the pages on Sunday 18 October.

In short

  • The dedicated page says the installation has been cancelled.
  • It had been advertised for the Founders Room, 16–25 October, with times to be confirmed.
  • A festival overview still describes it, so the listings do not currently agree.
  • No replacement date or detailed reason is supplied in the cancellation notice.

Modern Toss Flies: what the venue says

The individual event page places a cancellation notice immediately below the title. The explanation is limited to unforeseen circumstances. We have not established when that notice was first added and are not presenting it as a cancellation announced today.

The page retains the earlier Founders Room date range and a description of a collection spanning sculpture, animation, photography, print and interactive work. Those retained details are not confirmation that the installation is open.

Why the conflicting listings matter

Brighton Dome’s festival roundup still describes Flies as part of the programme. For someone arranging a short city-centre visit, the distinction between a general programme announcement and the specific event’s current status can mean an unnecessary journey.

The cancellation notice concerns this installation. It is not evidence that the whole comedy festival, other Modern Toss activities or unrelated Dome performances have been cancelled.

Our 16 October festival-opening report provides background on the wider programme; the individual event notice is the source to use for this installation’s status.

What visitors should do

Use the individual listing first. For a booking query, follow the Dome’s ticket-office guidance: email tickets@brightondome.org, quoting the exact event. Its published telephone number is 01273 709709, with standard phone hours Monday–Saturday, 10am–5pm. Do not assume those phone hours cover Sunday.

Brighton Locals’ view

The cancellation message needs to be reflected consistently across the programme. Until the venue reconciles its pages or announces a replacement, the useful advice is simple: do not treat an old roundup as proof that an installation is running.

What happens next: a revised listing or a replacement date would change the position. This report does not speculate about the reason for the cancellation.
