Steyning route 2 buses are terminating and restarting at Bramber Castle between 8pm and 5am during High Street roadworks listed by Brighton & Hove Buses for 12–17 October 2026. Eight Steyning stops are unavailable in that overnight window, affecting passengers travelling between the town and the Brighton, Hove and Shoreham corridor.
In short
- The overnight notice names service 2, not every route serving Steyning.
- Eight stops are missed from 20:00 to 05:00 until 17 October.
- Bramber Castle is the temporary terminating and restarting point.
- A separate Tanyard Lane closure has different instructions: its daytime alternatives overlap with the stops missed at night.
Which stops do Steyning route 2 buses miss?
The operator’s route 2 page and dated service notice lists Steyning Clock Tower, Clays Hill, Goring Road, Church Street, Health Centre, Thornscroft, Middle Mead and Shooting Field. This is a restriction that began on 12 October, not a newly announced emergency.
The overlapping diversion is the important catch
Separately, the operator’s service-updates page lists a Tanyard Lane closure from 5 October onwards, affecting routes 2, 2B and 60. That notice sends buses via Church Street and directs passengers from Clock Tower and Health Centre to Thornscroft or Church Street.
Those two alternatives are themselves on the overnight route 2 suspension list. Reading one notice without the other could therefore send a passenger to a stop that their evening bus will not reach. The route page groups services 2 and 2B, but the overnight wording specifically names service 2; we have not extended its restrictions to 2B by assumption.
What residents need to do
Choose your actual travel date and direction on the route page, then read the diversion notice alongside the timetable. A displayed scheduled time is not proof that a suspended stop is being served. For a route 2 journey within the overnight window, use the operator’s Bramber Castle instruction rather than the daytime alternatives.
If getting to that temporary endpoint is not practical for your mobility or onward journey, obtain route-specific advice through the operator’s official website before setting out. We have not verified a replacement shuttle or an accessible walking alternative.
Travelling through Hove? The separate Hove Town Hall Stop B suspension may also be relevant to your journey.
Brighton Locals’ view
Our judgement is that the combined effect of the two notices deserves more attention than either alone. Clear distinction between daytime and overnight boarding points is essential; an alternative stop is only useful if the bus actually serves it when you need it.
What happens next
The High Street notice runs until 17 October. The Tanyard Lane notice is open-ended. Do not treat the end of one restriction as confirmation that every Steyning stop has returned to normal.
Bottom line: for evening route 2 travel, check the overnight endpoint, not just the nearest daytime alternative.
