GPT-6 Intelligent UI rollout: what free and paid ChatGPT users actually get

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 and a new “Intelligent UI” system that can build visual and interactive answers inside ChatGPT, but users should check their own model picker because the company’s current public documentation does not describe free-tier model access in exactly the same way.

At a glance

  • Intelligent UI can add charts, forms, buttons, diagrams and small interactive tools to a response.
  • Paid ChatGPT tiers are being moved to GPT-6 Sol in Chat, subject to rollout and workspace controls.
  • The Pro reasoning option uses GPT-6 Astra and does not support Intelligent UI.
  • OpenAI’s launch post says Free and Go receive GPT-6 Luna, while its Help Centre updated on 10 October still describes GPT-5.6 Luna as their default.

What GPT-6 Intelligent UI changes

OpenAI’s 7 October announcement says ChatGPT can now choose a response format rather than forcing every answer into plain text. A comparison could appear side by side, an explanation could use an interactive diagram, and a practical request could produce a calculator, form or game within the conversation.

The interface streams progressively while the model is generating it. OpenAI says ordinary text remains available when that is clearer, and users do not need a special prompt to request the new format.

The separate Intelligent UI Help page, updated hours before this report, says the feature works from Instant through Extra High reasoning where those levels are available. It is not available with the Pro reasoning option powered by GPT-6 Astra.

The free-versus-paid detail is not completely clear

The launch post says GPT-6 Sol powers Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, while GPT-6 Luna powers Free and Go. It also says the rollout expanded to Free and Go from 8 October.

However, OpenAI’s broader models and limits article, updated on 10 October, says Free and Go users remain on GPT-5.6 Luna for their default and “Think” experiences and do not receive GPT-6 Sol. That article also says Intelligent UI is rolling out on supported updated apps and the web.

Those statements may reflect rollout timing, naming or account differences, but OpenAI has not reconciled them clearly on the pages inspected. Users should therefore trust the model name and controls shown in their own account rather than assuming access from a general announcement.

What users should do

  • Open the model picker and check the exact model and thinking level available to your account.
  • Update the mobile app before concluding Intelligent UI is missing. Older desktop apps do not support the new interface; OpenAI recommends the web instead.
  • On the web, use Settings → Layout and visuals to reduce visual elements if you prefer simpler answers.
  • Business and Enterprise users should ask their workspace administrator whether the model is enabled.
  • Do not assume a polished interactive panel has checked its own figures. Review calculations, sources and form inputs as you would in a text answer.

Brighton Locals’ view

Adaptive interfaces are a meaningful product shift because they can turn an answer into something usable rather than merely descriptive. The strongest examples will be comparisons, planning tools and explanations where changing an input changes the result.

The documentation mismatch is the weak point. A global launch aimed at more than a billion weekly users needs one plain availability table that matches every announcement and help page. Until then, “GPT-6 for everyone” is clearer as a rollout direction than a guarantee that every free account shows the same model today.

What to watch next

OpenAI says Intelligent UI will improve over time. The practical questions are whether access becomes consistent across apps, how often the model chooses interactivity well, and whether generated tools remain accessible and accurate on smaller screens.

Bottom line

GPT-6 is making ChatGPT more visual and interactive, but access varies by plan, app and rollout. Check the model picker, keep the app current and treat generated interfaces as aids that still need human review.
