Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 17 September 2026
These terms govern your use of brightonlocals.co.uk and any account, listing or subscription provided by Brighton Locals. By using the website or submitting content, you agree to them.
1. Our service
Brighton Locals is an independent directory and discovery platform for businesses, events, jobs and local content across Brighton, Hove and Sussex. We introduce users to third-party businesses; unless expressly stated, we are not the seller or provider of their goods or services and do not endorse or guarantee them.
2. Accounts
You must provide accurate information, keep login details secure and tell us promptly about unauthorised use. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 18 to buy a subscription or submit a listing on behalf of a business.
3. Listings and user content
By submitting content, you confirm it is accurate, lawful, not misleading, does not infringe third-party rights, and that you have authority to submit it. You grant Brighton Locals a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, edit for formatting, display and promote that content for operating and marketing the directory. You retain ownership of your content.
We may verify, edit, refuse, suspend or remove content or accounts where reasonably necessary for quality, safety, legal compliance or enforcement of these terms. A paid subscription does not guarantee approval, ranking, traffic, enquiries or sales.
4. Free and Premium listings
A Free listing provides the features shown at submission. Premium is a recurring annual subscription currently priced at £19 per year unless a different price is clearly displayed at checkout. Features may include enhanced visibility or additional listing options. Any material change to price will be shown before renewal or notified in advance where required by law.
5. Payments, renewals and cancellation
Payments are processed by our payment provider. Premium subscriptions renew annually until cancelled. You can cancel future renewal through your account where available or by emailing hello@brightonlocals.co.uk. Cancellation stops future renewals but normally leaves paid features active until the end of the current billing period. Our Refund & Cancellation Policy forms part of these terms.
6. Reviews
Reviews must reflect genuine experiences and must not contain unlawful, abusive, defamatory, promotional or manipulated content. Businesses may respond, but may not offer incentives for positive reviews or attempt to suppress honest feedback. We may moderate reviews, but do not guarantee that every review is accurate.
7. Prohibited use
You must not scrape the website without permission; submit spam, malware or fraudulent content; impersonate another person or business; interfere with security or availability; harvest personal data; or use the service unlawfully.
8. Intellectual property
The Brighton Locals name, logo, design and original website content belong to us or our licensors. Third-party business names, trademarks and content belong to their respective owners. No rights are transferred except the limited permission needed to use the website.
9. Availability and third-party links
We aim to keep the website available and information useful, but do not promise uninterrupted access or that listings are complete, current or error-free. External links, maps and embedded services are operated by third parties under their own terms.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Subject to that, Brighton Locals is not responsible for decisions, purchases, disputes or losses arising from dealings with listed businesses, or for indirect or consequential loss. For paid services, our total liability relating to a claim will not exceed the fees paid to us for that service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we use personal information, and our Cookie Policy explains our use of cookies.
12. Ending access
You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach, fraud, security risk, non-payment or legal reasons. Clauses intended to survive termination, including intellectual property, liability and disputes, will continue.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be highlighted or notified where appropriate. Continued use after the effective date means the updated terms apply.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that consumers may have rights to bring claims in the part of the UK where they live.
15. Contact
Questions or complaints: hello@brightonlocals.co.uk or use our Contact page.
